In-home playgroups connect a few families in close proximity to one another to participate in weekly group sessions together to provide social and educational play experiences for children and their families in their homes. The group sessions are uniquely designed with an enriched developmental, individualized curriculum plan to provide opportunities for whole child growth. The group sessions are facilitated by a DMI specialist and specifically shaped to meet the needs of each child.

Location playgroups provide an experimental and play-based opportunity for children to increase skills in all developmental areas with an emphasis on language, motor, and social development. We provide the parents and children with an appropriate play-based environment where they can develop cognitive, language, sensory and physical skills while at play in an exceptional group setting. The group setting allows the DMI specialists and parents to transform a non-threatening, natural environment to one of discovery, learning, breaking down challenges and improving the whole child development. The specialist’s interactions with the children help model appropriate language, skill-building techniques, behavior techniques, and carryover activities that can be used in the home environment. Current location environments include an indoor playground on Saturdays for motor, social and language intervention, Bells Art Factory for sensory, art and music intervention as well as various community sites for hands-on intervention.

Individual in-home services provide intervention within the child’s home incorporating learning opportunities into daily routines and activities. In addition in-home services provide parent education and support focusing on issues relevant to the family’s concerns, priorities, and objectives. DMI connects with various community businesses to provide intervention fieldtrips to incorporate natural social intervention within home service plans.
